Correct Bracket Attachment is Critical! |
With all awnings, but big projections in particular, it is critical that a bracket is always mounted on each side of the arm shoulder within 16”. If your awning has less than two brackets per arm then you must mount one bracket between the arm and the end of the awning with the other bracket in the middle. Secondly the installers must make sure they get 2” to 3” of penetration into the center of the stud with the lags. Thick sheathing or vinyl siding can diminish this depth with the common 4” lags so longer lags may be needed in certain circumstances. Finally you need to be careful if you are mounting to the box framing between floors that you either go through into the floor joist ends or use half inch diameter lags for more bite. |

Retractable awnings exposed to high salt environments often experience an elevated amount of corrosion which can cause the moving parts including the pitch adjustment mechanisms to bind or seize. This DOW CORNING ® 4 Electrical insulating compound will significantly reduce this problem when it's applied during the initial installation. It's a clear, easy to apply gel that is water and chemical resistant. Follow this link for more info and to get a sample.

Awnings Cool Your Home, Deck and Patio! |
 |
| NuImage retractable awnings provide “Green” benefits in both the summer and winter seasons. In summer they can be extended to provide significant cooling by blocking solar heat gain both through the windows and while sitting under them. They will make an outdoor living space feel up to 20 degrees cooler. When used on windows they block solar gain as well as damaging UV rays. On new construction, incorporating awnings into the initial design can reduce the size and cost of the air condtioning systems needed for cooling. Please refer to this recent study demonstrating the “ “Green” benefits of awnings throughout the country.
